Key Verse: John 14:12
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
For centuries, every generation desires to set up the next generation to do better than its predecessors. Parents work hard to plow the ground so that their children can begin at a better place. Our Senior Pastor always wanted his spiritual children to do better than he did; to preach better, to give better, to lead better.
Jesus did great and supernatural things during His time on earth. From healing miracles, to spending time with the outcast and giving Himself for us on the cross, it’s clear that we can never outdo the works of Jesus. And when we look at what is written in the Scriptures about everything Jesus did, it’s humbling to think that Jesus tells us we will do even greater things than He did.
This month we will spend time exploring the works of Jesus so we can understand the “Greater Works” that He has called us to do. Jesus has paved the way because He is the way. He is the foundation of our faith and the reason for everything we do. He has gone to the Father so that the Holy Spirit can dwell within us. Whether it’s the mission field, flowing in spiritual gifts, or giving to our communities, the Greater Works He has called us to do are not in the spirit of being greater than Jesus, but it is the empowerment of the Holy Spirit living in us that makes everything we do that much greater.
