Key Verse: Isaiah 9:6
For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
The celebrations of Christmas fill us with hope, peace, joy and love as we anticipate the birth of our King, the Messiah. For hundreds of years, the people of the Old Testament waited to be rescued and set free. Then finally after more than 400 years of silence He came, “wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (Lk.2:12). He lived 33 years before suffering death on a cross for our sin and then conquering death in resurrection. He was born to die (Mt. 1:21), but He rose from the grave so He could come back! (Heb 9:28)
The entire Gospel is about anticipation. They eagerly waited for Messiah to be born, now we eagerly wait for King Jesus to return. Life is about anticipation. Seasons of life fill us with the hope of achieving life goals, the joy of earning privileges, having peace with death, and experiencing love. As we prepare for the season of Christmas, let us remain focused not only on what we have been given in the birth of Jesus, but let us also live our life in anticipation of the return of our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.
