Key Verse: Genesis 1 John 4:18
18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
We’re living in scary times. Every day we hear and see things that produces fear in our lives. This fear causes us to create boundaries that protect us from pain, exposure, and risk. However, the boundaries we create to keep the scary things away, are actually imprisoning us in fear because it limits our ability to love.
When we contrast our love and God’s love, we fall short of fulfilling His commandment to love. We have mistakenly believed that the focus of our faith is to stop sinning after committing our life to Christ. Although Jesus died for our sins, it was love that drove him to the cross. Because of the cross, our life is no longer just about not sinning, but also about fulfilling the commandment to Love.
Thankfully, the Scriptures show us the cure to fear. We read in 1 John 4:18 that perfect “love casts out fear” and that we cannot be perfected in Love if we are carrying fear. This month, join us as we study the scriptures to understand what Perfect Love is and discover how to fulfill God’s greatest commandment to Love.
