Fear the Lord

Key Verse: Psalms 34:11 “Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.”

Nobody likes to be afraid. Whether you are scared about an uncertain outcome or walking alone at night in a sketchy neighborhood, fear is not something we usually enjoy. The month of October is a time of the year when the world idolizes and celebrates fear. From movies and decorations to costumes and haunted houses, fear attempts to arrest us and trap us into the snares of death.

But Scripture speaks of a good fear that bring us life and freedom from death. A fear grounded on a foundation of trust (Ps. 115:11), compassion (Ps. 103:13), friendship (Ps. 25:14) and perfect love (1 Jn. 4:18). This good fear is nothing but “the fear of the Lord.” In the midst of the worldly fear that surrounds us, let us gather to learn about what it means to fear God so that we can overcome this worldly fear that desires to entangle us.
