The beginning of the book of Haggai begins with a problem of commitment from the people to build the house of the Lord (1:2). Haggai tells us of a time when the people were discouraged because of the condition of the current temple in comparison to Solomon’s temple (2:3-4). Their hearts are challenged to consider their ways and conviction settles in their hearts to begin the work (1:5-9). The people are then reminded of who owns the glory (2:6-8) and encouraged by looking forward to the promised glory and not focusing on the former glory of Solomon’s temple (2:8-9). Then the people are reminded to remain undefiled and clean in the work so they can receive the blessings of God (2:10-20).
The Lord wants to bring forth new glory into our lives but we are trying to live on the glory we were given yesterday. Sometimes we live our lives holding onto how good things used to be instead of living on His promised of future glory. Liberty has seen better days. There have been moments of discouragement in ministry, and struggles in leadership. But now is the time to stop thinking about our former days of glory and press forward towards the future glory God has promised this ministry. It’s time for change. It’s time for peace. It’s time for the members and leaders to focus on Envisioning Future Glory!
