Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 4:14-17 (ESV)
14I do not write these things to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. 15For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. 16I urge you, then, be imitators of me. 17That is why I sent you Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, to remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach them everywhere in every church.
Everything that God has ever done in Scripture has been through family. In creation, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit created a family in His image and commanded them to be fruitful and multiply (Gen. 1:26-28). In redemption, God made a plan to restore humanity from sin through Abraham’s family. They had a son that resulted in generations, tribes and nations of families who eventually had Jesus, our Savior (Gen 12:1-3). In restoration, God planned the restoration of all things by creating the spiritual family of God in which we become sons and daughters when we are born again. As a spiritual family we are given the Great Commission (Mt. 28:18-20) to make disciples who will make more spiritual families through Christ.
God loves family. It is so important that He has weaved the subject throughout all of Scripture. In family we will find relationship, covenant, and multiplication. We will develop and mature into our life purpose. So as we begin a new year, we call on you to join us in strengthening families in homes, and doing church as family. Liberty is not just church, it’s family!
